At 9am, Friday, February 5, community members, students, elected officials, and others gathered to dedicate this long-awaited creekside park. Flanked by the bike path and Ballona Creek on one side and Milton Street and Marina Del Rey Middle School on the other, the new park is a beautiful, environmentally smart, and an innovative community asset. It will provide educational opportunities for students as well as enhance the usability and enjoyment of the current bicycle path.
The park results from years of effort by the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA), local, state, and federal elected officials, the Baldwin Hills Conservancy, Ballona Creek Renaissance, and others to improve, enhance, and increase access to the popular bike path alongside Ballona Creek.
County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas presided over the dedication along with State Senator Ben Allen, joined by other key stakeholders, not the least of whom were the principal, faculty, and students of Marina Del Rey Middle School and its Marine Science Academy.
The three photos above and more coverage may be found on the Ballona Creek Renaissance Facebook Page and in the near future on the BCR website.
